Many readers are aware that I recently returned from a lengthy business trip. During my return, I was fortunate enough to spend a long weekend in Paris before being re-injected into US culture on Independence Day weekend. This afforded me the opportunity to sample some French wines, beers, meats and cheeses; thus expanding my ever growing love affair with French cuisine and libations.
I did take the time to see some touristy sights such as the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacré-Cœur Basilica, L’Hôtel national des Invalides, Île Saint-Louis, Moulin Rouge, and even the Musée de l’érotisme (gasp!).
One of the weekend’s many highlights was getting to meet ZenHabits and LiveYourLegend founders Leo Babauta and Scott Dinsmore, respectively, at a LiveYourLegend meet-up in Paris’ Roman ruins at Arènes de Lutèce. It was a treat to hear the duo share their thoughts, experiences, and struggles on enriched living through minimalism. A neat side-bonus was secretly watching park-goers play pétanque on a first century Roman amphitheater in the background.
By far my favorite experience of the weekend was enjoying Paris along the Seine in the evenings. THOUSANDS of Parisians descend of the river’s banks to eat, drink, dance in what can best be described as a BYOWMC (… wine, meat, cheese!) tailgate for the summer evening. It was simply amazing to sit on the banks of the Seine with my feet dangling over the river while enjoying a bottle of wine and finger foods amidst thousands of happy people. It is definitely my favorite thing to do in Paris thus far.
What are some of your special moments from the summer? I am talking about the ones that make you smile as you remember them and speak 100 mph as you try to share them with others. Where they sensational, complicated extravaganzas; or were they simple, intimate, quiet moments?
