If you have known me more than 10 minutes, you probably know that I am an avid motorcyclist. It is my version of a therapist’s couch, support group, fishing hole, tree stand, or shopping spree… It is my Zen. I am a better ‘me’ on a motorcycle and it allows me both get in the zone and zone out.
Tomorrow I embark on what should be a 5000+ mile road trip around the Western US. Along the route, I plan to visit family and friends as well as making new friends along the way. I will save money by camping, couch surfing, and grabbing discounted hotels along the way. I see a lot of food carts, street vendors, and gas station cuisine in my future.
I am bringing two changes of clothing, flip-flops, and Chuck Taylor’s. I am also bringing a tent, a sleeping bag, a hammock, and motorcycling stuff (helmets, eyewear, gloves, boots, chaps, jacket, etc.). I am bringing very little as far as JIC (just in case) or contingency kit is concerned. I’ll post an update next month that details what I would do different (itinerary, bring/not bring, etc.).
This trip is something my heart and soul has needed for quite some time now and I am excited to roll on the throttle towards the next corner or adventure.
What is your “happy place” or Zen? Moreover, how often do you allow yourself to be filled with the good stuff?
